If you are a contractor working on a big project with a lot of tonnage of waste, a 40 cubic yard dumpster is likely the best choice for your job site. Although this size bin is available for residential use, it is usually more appropriate for large-scale commercial construction. This is Dumpster Grades’ largest available option, so there are a few specs to look at when considering this bin.

  • Capacity. If you need to haul 12 or more pickup truck loads of debris, this size dumpster can handle it all in one shot. At a five to six-ton capacity, this bin can easily hold 10,000 to 12,000 pounds of waste material.
  • Dimensions. This dumpster is the tallest available option, at 8’ in height, which is great for larger objects but can prove difficult to fill in residential use. The footprint is still just 7 ½’x22’, so it takes up a minimal amount of ground space for its size.
  • Guidelines. Since landfills charge for dumping based on weight, our staff can instruct you on how to stay within the weight requirements of your bin. Keep in mind that there are restrictions on the type of debris you can dump in many areas.

Best Uses for a 40 Yard Dumpster

Disposing of the largest amounts of material requires the largest available waste bin. This is the most efficient way to handle a large amount of debris, but please note that we do not recommend this size for getting rid of heavy materials like concrete. Some of the projects that our clients find the 40-yard dumpster most useful for include:

  • Complete home remodeling projects and the addition of extended living space that is more than 2,000 sq ft.
  • Any large construction job that contractors take on may require the largest waste receptacle. This bin can accommodate most types of demolition waste and packing material, including flooring and carpeting, outdoor patio and deck materials, drywall, tiling debris, shingles, and sheet metal.

Plan Ahead

Be sure to fully discuss the intended use of your dumpster with our team before placing your order. Here are a few tips on placement guidelines.

  • Delivery area. Your worksite or home location will need a space of at least 60’ in length and 10 ½’ in width to accommodate delivery of this bin. Ensure this space is cleared of any obstacles.
  • Overhead Space. Always check the placement area overhead as well as on the ground. This bin will need clearance of at least 23 vertical feet to be lifted into place. Make sure there are no electrical lines or tree branches above the delivery area.
  • Weight. Always keep in mind that this size bin is not acceptable for heavy debris like asphalt and concrete. The weight of these materials would exceed its limitations. Calculate weight to the nearest estimation before choosing this dumpster.
